Our philosophy promotes sustainable practices, respect for the environment, and fostering a strong sense of responsibility for the world around us. At the centre, children are actively involved in caring for their environment and learning ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

Recycling is part of our daily routine, with children learning to identify recyclable materials and soft plastics. Our worm farm helps minimise waste while producing nutrient-rich compost for our gardens. The children are enthusiastic gardeners who enjoy watering plants, smelling herbs, and harvesting vegetables grown in our garden. They also help care for swan plants that attract monarch butterflies and enjoy observing and learning about the fascinating life cycle of these beautiful insects.Community Connections.

A fundamental part of our programme is connecting children with their local community. Children of all ages participate in regular excursions, including walks through the local bush and visits to the neighbouring park, providing opportunities to explore nature and develop physical skills. We also organise planned outings throughout the year and welcome parent participation whenever possible. These may include visits to local schools, the library, community events, and places connected to children's current interests and learning projects.

Supporting Transitions to School. Our teachers have established strong relationships with local schools to support children's transition to primary education. Older children regularly visit local schools throughout the year, helping them become familiar with the school environment and routines. Our transition-to-school programme focuses on developing independence, self-help skills, social competence, concentration, and confidence. We believe that supporting children in a holistic way helps them thrive, build resilience, and develop the skills they need for a successful transition to school and beyond.

Food and Mealtimes

We encourage healthy eating habits and ask families to provide a healthy packed lunch and a named water bottle for their child each day. While we do not provide meals, we have a fully equipped kitchen that allows us to heat lunches when needed. The kitchen is also an important part of our learning programme, where children enjoy participating in baking experiences, making smoothies, and special cooking activities such as pizza-making days. These experiences help children develop confidence, practical life skills, and an understanding of healthy food choices.

Families are asked to provide nappies and any specific creams their child may require. Plum Tree Preschool supplies wipes and Sudocrem as part of our daily care routine.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Playball is available for preschool children throughout the year. Sessions are held weekly and are provided at no additional cost to families.

Yoga classes are offered weekly by Kate, Jessica, and Melissa. Participation is optional, and children are free to choose whether they would like to take part.

At Plum Tree Preschool Millwater, we strive to create a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to become confident, capable, and lifelong learners.
